The race was very competitive, and the improvement since Suzuka was clear.

I tried to solve some of the problems I had in Suzuka too much tyre wear and battery management issues, which caused a lack of speed. Here in Bahrain, during practice, things seemed to work, but then the forecast predicted rain, so I had to change the whole setup at the last minute. I felt I was also fast in the rain, but it’s always difficult to measure.

In qualifying, I didn’t have much speed. The first lap was very good, but the following laps were slower. So I started from P2.

I always had a one-stop strategy in mind. My original plan was to start on hard tyres and switch to mediums, but since rain was expected, I decided to start on mediums. I was surprised that Javi started on soft tyres. I knew that tyre wouldn’t last many laps at a good pace, so I tried to apply pressure and stay close. He pitted on lap 9, which allowed me to build a small gap. When I stopped on lap 22, I switched to hards, but I was much slower compared to Javi on mediums. He gained a lot of time quickly and started attacking.

From lap 22 to lap 30 we had a great battle with several overtakes. There was a moment where we almost crashed I wasn’t expecting him to go for the overtake and I moved the car too early but with a lot of space to him. Still he braked very late and I managed to overtake him again. Then he made a small mistake and lost some time.

On lap 30 the rain started. The same thing happened as in qualifying: I was fast on the first lap, but then the car gradually became slower. Still, I had a good advantage and was able to manage the race until the end.

P1.

Congratulations to everyone. See you in Miami.
