I don’t really know what to say about this race. At least it was one of the strangest I’ve ever had.

I got the feeling that if I had started from pole and controlled the race maybe the result would have been different.

I felt like I was on the limit and pushed everything I could, and even so, P3. Worse than that, on some laps I couldn’t even keep up with the cars in front of me.

Here I chose to race with more wing than in Melbourne and China, but already on the first lap I realized I had too much wing. I had oversteer, although the rear felt stablenit was just that the car was turning too much. I think that, on some laps, increased the front tyre wear too much.

I need to understand battery management better I think that’s important. I can’t figure out how they manage to push for so many laps. Javibeza, for example, did more than half the race on mediums, which is impressive.

I was still unsure whether to manage things for a one-stop strategy, but I chose to stop twice I don’t think it would have changed the result now.

Let’s see in Bahrain. I already have some ideas to improve.
Congrats to Todor for the incredible qualifying pace, and to Javibeza and Pake as well. They had great races.

The weekend preparation went ok for me overal, the car setup was good, nice balance in the corners (the charging stations as Fernando Alonso called them :P ) and good tyre wear ratio between fron and rear tyres. This allowed me to do a nice clean and quick lap in Q2 despite the silghtly greener track compared to the long practice sessions during the week.
Something that I need to work on is my terrible start especially with cold tyres, lost the lead before turn 1 from Javi and Pake was pushing from behind. I was planning to do a 1 stop Hard -> Medium but wasn't sure if the tyres will last 23 laps if I push all the way from the beginning and that's why I prefered to try and hold the pack behind me instead of trying to keep up with the Soft tyres of Javi ahead. Then at the entry of Spoon corner I think I touched the grass sliding towards the outside with very high speed but managed to hold control of the car and got back on track straight away. Despite losing time doing this the game decided to give me a Drive Through penalty straight away instead of giving me warning points and all the decent performance vanished instantly. I came out like 19th or something and started going through the action right from the back. Cars spinning and crashing ahead of me, overtaking others until one car lost control at turn one and went off track. As I was passing by on the inside line the driver joined the track righ hitting and spinning me around damaging the car as well. I think this happened in lap 6. Then a few laps later the SC came out and as I didn't have much to lose at the back, I decided to pit and change the Hard tyres at about 87% wear at that time with new Medium set. At that time I wasn' sure if this set will last till the end because there were 25 more laps to go but I decided if they wear out too soon I'll pit again for a set of Softs at the end.
But as I was cathing up on all the drivers along the way to 4th position, I was just waiting for the right moment to attack, saving tyres during the rest of the lap and only pushing when the right moment was there. This helped me preserve the tyres a lot and at about 10 laps remaining I had to make a decision whether to stop for a set of Softs or continue till the end with this worn set of Mediums. Observing how and what the others behind me were doing , I decided to stay and it payed off at the end :)
So going forward I think I need to spend more time working on optimising the racing pace and cold tyre starts. Looking at the race results, it looks like I was the driver with least tyre wear, 1.65 averaging for the front tyres and also one of the best fuel savers. This probably means that I just need to push a bit more and use more of the car's potential during a race.
See you all in Bahrain :drinking:
